Hello all, I had noticed some time back that my Roadster was once a fairly light blue colour, ( It now bright red + runs ) and I seem to remember reading an article on this site about a club register containing the histories of Marlins past and present. I would like to know more about mine, I was told it was built by an older member of the club, it also has a very old "Nut crackers" sticker in the window.

Any info would be interesting !

i think "nutcrackers" is/was a car club in the Tiverton, Devon area
I'm fairly sure I watched a trial organised by them some years ago
which was partly the reason I bought my first Roadster!!

Harry, I’m afraid that I am not familiar with any Nutcrackers Car Club that might exist in the south but can assure you that the Nutcrackers Car Group thrives in the northwest!
If it helps our badge is green with gold lettering and a split nut and chequered flags in silver. Despite several different Marlins having been owned by Nutcrackers members I cannot recall one in light blue other than my own (that one was built by YKC) but will ask at the Marlin Owners local meet/Nutcrackers meeting tomorrow.

Rejuvenate Your Monthly Meetings the Nutcracker’s Way!

The observant of you might have noticed the “Nutcracker’s Car Group” badges displayed on Marlins from the North West but may not be fully aware of how the Group brings together car enthusiasts in our area. The Nutcracker’s approach could help to get together Marlin and other kit car devotees in locations where Marlin ownership is sparse or the response to local Marlin-only meets disappointing.
This was the case some years ago when the monthly Preston Marlin Owner’s Club meeting was rarely visited by any other than two stalwarts both of whom also attended the more popular Nutcracker’s Group – for convenience the meetings were combined! Nutcrackers was founded by kit car enthusiast Alan Jones as a forum through which those of a similar interest could share information and practical help and is open to anyone with an interest in kit, classic or specialist vehicles. Across the Group this now ranges from the 1930’s to the present day, 2, 3 and 4 wheels and at least ten different marques of kit car. This variety leads to some interesting discussions!
The lines on which we operate involve no club officials, constitution or membership fees. The approach is that of a “like-minded group of friends” – all we ask for is 6x2nd class postage stamps as an annual contribution towards administration expenses. Our understanding is that by operating informally and not as a “club” with “members” allows us to attend shows together without the need for liability insurance beyond that required for road use.
Four individuals act as co-ordinators but not organisers – a husband and wife team look after the Group’s bookings for local shows and have recently set up our website (http://www.nutcrackerscargroup.co.uk/). Fellow Marlin owner Tony Green looks after the database of participants and circulates information to those who actively use e-mails. Tony also kindly takes on the role of publisher for the contact newsletters I compose. These were issued on an as-needed basis four times last year – around 40 copies are posted as far afield as Derbyshire, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales.
In 2009 in addition to our regular monthly meetings we attended 9 local vehicle shows. Individuals within the group also organised three road runs (one to the Derbyshire local Marlin meeting), a gliding evening and a Christmas lunch social also enjoyed by our guests. The principal of stepping forward to organise an activity for the benefit of the whole group is actively encouraged as a fundamental of Nutcrackers!
