  • Exhaust system components

Does anyone know where to obtain stainless steel exhaust tubing at a sensible price. You can buy it from Europa but they want ?25 per meter!*!*!*! I can't help thinking that this is a little - expensive...

I have a suitable silencer and the down pipes from the engine - just need to connect them together with a couple of straight pipes...

Try http://www.custom-chrome.co.uk/ they seem to have a lot of stuff for pluging together your own exhaust. I've not seen their prices though.

I look forward to seeing your finished exhaust

      Re: Exhaust system components

Merlin Motor Sports http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/ do a range but I haven't bought anything from them, so can't comment.
In fact, can anyone else share any experience of buying or building their exhaust system for an e30 BMW Sportster. Has anyone bought the kit from Marlin themselves? I would be interested in any feedback as a pair of side pipes and manifold are as much as I paid for my donor BMW, so seems a little extravagant!

      thanks

        Re: Exhaust system components

When I picked my kit up from Marlin a few months back they said they dont have an exhaust system for the E30 M20 (2 and 2.5 ltr 6 pot) engines so I'm thinking about getting a specialist to custom build one for me, but that will cost quite a lot, will have to see when the time comes.

They did however say that someone local (to Marlin) is in the process of having one made and will be able to replicate that one. Probably worth a call to Terry to see if any progress has been made on that front.

Exhaust system is sorted! I will post some pictures soon on my website for anyone interested but basically it is:
Standard BMW downpipe cut off just past bulkhead.
2 x straight stainless 45mm pipes to rear of car.
Stainless TR6 silencer mounted accross rear.

I will have to make a heatsheild up to protect the fuel tank. My intention is also to mount the fuel tank higher than "standard" so that it sits between the chassis rails (more protection) and gives the exhaust aboiut 3" clearance.

The lowest point of the exhaust which is the silencer should have about 4.5" ground clearance whilst not wonderfull should be adequate

                  Hi Robin,
this looks like a really simple solution. It'll be interesting to hear what it sounds like? A BMW or a Triumph?? Good luck getting the engine going soon!

                  best regards
