That sounds as though the breather was blocked and either pressure was forcing oil past the rings or more likely extra pressure forcing oil through the breather system into the inlet manifold.
Good that its sorted though. Pleased that a remote diagnosis proved to be correct.

I have to say if it hadn't been for this forum I would of had the engine rebored and a new set of rings put it back together and had the same problem. This is the second time that the people on this forum have saved me a lot of angst and money thank you all I wish I had found it when I was building the car in the first place.

And as an aside my sons classic Mini broke down yesterday so he took the Marlin on a decent run to work and said he thought it was running better than it ever had.
