  • Potential Cabrio Owner

    Hi
Just after some general guidance re availability of parts for a 1996 Sierra based Cabrio kit. The parts I am particularly interested in are:-
    1) A replacement hood and hood bag.
    2) Front suspension components for square section wishbones (ball joints and bushes).

    Many thanks

Hi, I got your email. The Cabrio is not in production so you can not get a hood or a hood bag from a manufacturer, However if you have a hood frame then you should be able to have a hood made by a local trimmer. Better if you have the old hood for a pattern but not impossible if you do not. The same for the hood bag. The only time these become available are if an un built kit is being sold off for parts The front suspension parts are available and are the same for for square section wishbones as the round section. (ball joints and bushes)
    Danny.

Hi - The ball joints are Metro top ball joints, Quinton Hazel No QSJ10605. The rubber bushes are standard Sierra items (also used for diff mounts). Poly bushes are available but some users feel they make the suspension too stiff. Get it bought!! Dave

        Hi Dave
Well after much deliberation it is now bought, so not having owned/built a Marlin previously I am bound to be a regular on the forum asking stupid questions! I have built 3 cars previously though, so hopefully can use a spanner!
        Best Wishes
        Tim

          Hi Tim
Welcome to the Marlin Owners Club, and to Cabrio ownership.

Just picking up on your original questions below, are you still interested in a hood, and bag?
I have just finished building the last Cabrio kit sold by Marlin, and when DVLA finally issue it with a log book, I am planning to take it to a local upholsterer to get a hood and bag made. If you still require one, it may be possible to get two made for a lower price each?
Ping me a PM if you are interested.
          Regards
          Mike

Welcome Tim to Cabrio ownership. Don't wory about posting lots of questions here, that's what this forum is about. Any chance of a photo or two or some in depth details about your vehicle, also where are you based?

              Hi
I haven't got the chassis number with me, although receipts with the car show the kit was purchased in 1994 from Marlin, rather than YKC. It has a Pinto EFI engine fitted. It needs some tidying up / modification and appears to have been laid up for the last 3 years. Although the car originates from Mike's area, I am down in Kent.

                Hi Tim
Jim Davis [07915612474] had a hood and frame for sale recently, though if correct they were for a 'standard' ie SWB car.

Thanks, I'll give Jim a call. As mine is a '95 car with do boot and stated length as 3780mm I'm guessing it is an earlier standard swb? The chassis number is T4088AGKR9601 and the builder was a member of the club Membership number 950101 in the Lincolnshire area.

                    Hi Tim

At 3780mm (12'5") yours is a Standard (SWB).
The LWB is 4" longer at 3895mm (12'9")
