For anyone who does not read the other car notes, has any Sportster builder used a BMW M50 2500 engine in their build? - if so has it proved to be as quiet/smooth as you expected?
    (see same topic under Cabrio)
    regards

    Re: BMW Power

I've got the 2.2 M54 in my E46 Coupe the engine runs smooth from top to bottom, but then its only got 30k on it! I've also driven an E46 saloon and an E39 5 with the M52 2.0 which was just as smooth (just a bit lacking in excitement).

My M54 can be a bit raspy when its cold, but as soon as its been running for a minute its fine.

Can comment on either engine in a kit car though. I'll let you know how the M20 from the E30 sounds in my sportster once I have it running - although this is likely to be several months yet.

I know that Andy Dane is working on an E36 based sportster. So he's probably the best person to ask. His site is here: http://www.marlinsportster.co.uk/

    Thanks,

    Patrick

I have got the M50 vanos engine but theres no fuel line elctrics yet so I can comment on it's running. I was emailed recently by someone else who had built his with beemer power and he was happy. Will dig out his details if he doesn't mind.

One thing I haven't figured yet is how to get the air intake to work nicely without restricting the flow too much as it's VERY close to the bonnet sides. anyone got any solutions?

Thanks for the comments. Chris Cunliffe has the M50 in his Cabrio which has just put through the SVA. He forwarded me the attached photo - hope it might be of use. Chris has been happy to talk about his car , and has left his contact details under the Cabrio BMW Power forum if you want to follow this up. Good luck.

As someone with a completed sportster with BMW power that seems to work well!, could you tell me what you did for an oil cooler?
