  • Rear wheels and bodywork

help - I've finally shortened my rear springs by 50mm and have introduced a new issue. I'm using alloy wheels off a Z3 (ebay bargain) and they are now very close to the chassis. I'm worried that I either won't be able to get bodywork between wheel and chassis or that it will rub if it does.

It's a BMW E36 based sportster - anyone got photos of the back of theirs at this stage I can compare it to? I'll probably find the wheels won't fit knowing my luck...

    Re: Rear wheels and bodywork

I have the same problem with the standard BMW wheels temporarily keeping my Sportster off the ground! I suspect that if you use wheels with the standard offset you will need spacers. Anyone else with a completed car have any comments?

I had to fit 20mm spacers at the back and 25mm spaces at the front( due to cycle wings fouling wheels), my BMW alloys have a deep offset, they were off a 5 series. Have a look at http://www.trackstore.co.uk/ they have a complete range of good quality machined spaces with long studs and nuts, check it out. By the way the fuels system works OK.

        Re: Rear wheels and bodywork

        Hi all,
does anyone know what Marlin recommend the offset should be.
I assumed that it would be the same as the standard e30 BMW offset but the above posts suggest that this is not the case?
Has anyone already asked Mark what he suggests is ideal?

Im using 4 to 5 stud converter/spacers as I have some E36 wheels with good tyres. They've spaced the wheels out futher than standard which looks pretty good to me.

Just from a loose body test fit I did with the E30 wheels it looked like it needed spacers.

There's a few pictures on my site (page 5 in the construction section) of the adapters.
