Can you guess why I want these ?

    I'm buying a pair of these -

    Can you guess why
A clue is they are needed (to stay within the law) for my modifications to ease access.

Getting there (not about a taxi business)
Another clue - they are for the door. But do you know why I need them for my modification to the Marlin to remain legal ?

                Bingo
As long as they have a detent system to stop them coming open when the vehicle is in motion then suicide doors are 100% legal. Most people use a manual sliding bolt but seeing Black Cabs have had a system in place for their rear doors since 1960's then makes sense to use their components. Simple speed sensor on prop shaft together with the taxi control unit (also cheap / reliable) activates the locks at 2-5 mph upwards.
