  • Replacement Starter Motor

    Hi
I have replaced my starter motor - what a difference that makes!
Thought these cross-reference numbers would come in useful to others:

The original was a Lucas M35J pre-engaged unit.
This became a replacement unit LRS293; none of which cropped up on searches by my supplier.
The modern replacement is a heavy duty unit with reference STR56028 obtained from Prestolite, which in turn has their reference number of 66925379.

    Re: Replacement Starter Motor

    Hi Brian,
Thanks for the info and doing the homework.
I, too, am looking at a new starter for the Roadster since the motor is just clicking and I have to get out and rock the car in gear to get the motor turning, and got a reply off these guys below who are agents for Prestolite, and the price isn't too bad. So I'll be putting in an order soon.
Hope this may be useful to others???

Price is £59.50 plus £8.25 carriage for a 66925379 starter Total £81.30 including Vat

    Delivery is 2-3 days

      Re: Replacement Starter Motor

From memory, I thought that the M35J was an INERTIA Starter Motor and it was the 2M100 that was PRE-ENGAGED.

It would not make too much difference swapping between the two as the Bell houses are the same, only a small change to the wiring is necessary.
Either way it sounds like a good price and reasonable service.
