    which exhaust

    Quick question here about exhausts. I have a 1.8 pinto lump in my LWB roadster. Right now its exhaust-less and whilst not in any rush to get one on there I wouldnt mind getting one in stock for the day i eventually get around to it. Does anyone have any recommendations in this area. My preference is out the back but i can be persuaded otherwise.

    I guess it comes down to three main options
    1. buying something from ebay / local scrappie and using some lengthy flexi tubing
    2. going to carbuyersolutions or somewhere like that and buying a bunch of seperates
    3. getting a specialist on the job ..

      I've just had a full stainless (T304 grade) system fitted sticking out the back of my Sportster. I went to Longlife. It was a lot less expensive than I expected, it was half the price that Marlin quote to buy the bits and it comes with a lifetime guarantee.

      Worth checking out IMHO

          Do you get any exhaust fumes rolling back into the cabin when travelling at 30-50mph? - I do with my rear exit, and most owners I've spoken to advise it needs to exit to either side behind the rear wheel rather than straight out of the back.

          I made my own exhaust by buying individual components from an exhaust supplier (Pheonix Exhaust Systems) which kept the cost down, but it has turned out too damn noisey - these guys sell performance exhausts, and clearly are not bothered about a bit of noise!

          Getting a company who can make an exhaust up first time to your requirements sounds like a very good idea in retrospect! - I am now designing the Mk11 version, and it would definitely have been cheaper to have had a purpose built one from the outset - but you live and you learn!

              Hi,
              I'm thinking of getting the exhaust on my Roadster done and I've visited Cybox Exhausts, ( www.cybox.co.uk ) based in Bromborough on The Wirral.
              They quoted under £200 for a copy of the present side exit exhaust system, fitted and made to sound how I wanted it, basically to sound like the engine's more powerful than it actually is, a single carb 1800 Marina! Some challenge!
              I'm hoping to get it done later this summer.
              Can't recommend them yet but looks very promising.

                  I would recommend getting a stainless steel one made specifically for your car, as in the long run it can actually work out cheaper, especially if you get a life time guarantee with it and a lot less hassle.

                      I had a twin box custom stst system fitted using Powerflow products - only cost a little over 300 and was built to my design including a flexi joint after the downpipe and a twin tailpipe. Look up a powerflow distributor there will be one near you i suspect. (Mine is a pinto engine but not muchh different other than manifold connection.

                          And the noise level was just a little above a standard car - perfect for the car.

                              well, i think that pretty much settles it. No one has weighed in with 'get on the 'tinterweb' or 'go down t'scrappie' so it looks like a custom job at some point is on the cards. Like 2017 or something ...........

                                  For my Mahindra MM540 I'm making a pattern exhaust system out of plastic plumbing waste pipe & fittings. Self tapper or pop rivet will lock the joints to keep the correct angles. With this I can then take it to an exhaust maker (I'm going to use http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/ as they are close to me) to get the pipework duplicated in stainless.
                                  The same method could be used for making a Marlin system and even worth considering if you intend using ready made bends etc as better to cut a cheap length of plastic pipe wrong than an expensive piece of stainless tube
