I built the first Alfa Engined one - think before Paul changed his engine in his demonstrater !!! Just used the engine and gearbox from a 1750 , and used the propshaft from the Alfa shortened .. the axle was out of a Marina 1800 TC...
Think the clutch was cable operated but would not swear to it !!

Re: Fitting an ALFA ROMEO engine and gearbox info required

Replaced the 'A' series in my SWB Roadster with a 2 litre DOHC Alfa engine several years ago. Didn't have an Alfa gearbox so fitted a Sierra type 9 box via an adaptor plate instead. Very pleased with the result but it did involve some significant 're-engineering' of the car. For example, the intermediate steering column fouls the side draft carbs so, rather than route the column over the top of the carbs and then down to the rack, I replaced the Marina column with a much longer Ford Capri unit angled down so that the intermediate shaft runs horizontally under the carbs. This gives a much better angle for the steering wheel.
