Help. Hunter exhaust/silencer problem.

Can someone please advise as to what I should do with my silencer as it appears something is loose inside and it makes a ghastly noise on occasions. Also I think this is also making the car stall when standing still.

Your opinions greatly appreciated. Should I buy a new silencer or are they not available. My garage is bl....dy useless.

You don't say where it is that you are located but try looking at Longlife exhausts on Google to find local supplier, or you could contact PD Gough in Notts who can replicate or any other stainless steel exhaust manufacturer

Hi Anthony,
I had the same problem on my Rover v8 engined Cabrio. There was an awful rattle/tinkling sound from one of the silencers.
I cut a 6x4 (approx.) section out of the top of the silencer with my angle grinder, to find one, of only two baffles inside the silencer, had broken loose.
I found a local welder who welded up the baffle, cut a piece of stainless sheet slightly oversize and welded this section over the hole.
Rattle gone, problem solved. Charged me £30.

Sound like one of the baffles has come loose. Mike's idea sound's good.
Doug Billings bought a new silencer from the Stoneliegh show i think they were called Custom Chrome 01203 387808, or Lance Prichard QJZ Engineering ltd 01777 248844 - pipe bending & exhaust specialists.
