  • Oil Cooler

Does anyone know the thread spec for the standard oil cooler take-off on the Bmw 2.5 lump? The standard hoses you can buy all seem to be imperial sizes - I guess the Germans won't have used one of these...

    Cheers

    Re: Oil Cooler

    Hi Robin,

I've been looking into this as well now - mocal have a BMW 6cyl. kit with an oil stat for attaching their coolers. Only thing I can't confim is if these will fit on an M20!

Rally Design don't know and I've not been able to get through to Mocal.

    Thanks,

    Patrick

      Re: Oil Cooler

      Hi Robin,
I have the M20 2.5 lump in my Cabrio and I run without an oil cooler.Have you considered this option -it's cheap.
My view is that unless you intend to do a lot of very high speeds, pull very high revs on a race track for long periods, or intend to tow a caravan down the motrways, then don't bother with it!
Mine has now done 5k miles with no oil cooler and have not suffered any problems. These engines do need a good semi-synthetic oil though.
