Hello all.

I'm refurbishing the front brakes of my roadster. It's Morris Marina based, even if parts are accurately described on Haynes handbook of... 1976-1980 Ford Escort

What I feared was confirmed: there is either metric and imperial thread on this car

The bolts that hold the rim are not metric: they're roughtly 17,5mm or 0,7 inch. Could you please confirm this, or give me the precise size ?

I'll buy a set of wrench in imperial size with 1/2 square ASAP...

Marina donor parts will be imperial but body fittings/panels will be metric...and factor in the "what nuts/bolts have I got in my spares box?" approach former owners may have employed.
I strongly recommend acquiring a Marina Haynes (or equivalent) manual and a thread gauge, plus an imperial socket & ring set.

Be thankful it isn't based on a Morris 8 which, iirc, had metric threads with imperial heads in places.

But in the UK there are angels like Namrick if they have not got it on the shelf, they know where to get it.

Standard wheel studs on a Marina were 3/8" UNF but they do get changed to 7/16 UNF and even 12mm Ford pattern.
The actual hexagon wheel nuts used could be different sizes depending on the wheels that were fitted.

The Girling calipers are common to many different models built from the mid sixties onwards until sliding calipers were introduced which is why my Clio Brake mod was so easy. The distance between fixing holes was the same just slightly larger from 7/16" to M12

If you are replacing bolts remember that some are High Tensile, especially around the steering, axles and transmission.

Hello all

I ordered a brand new (yes!) Haynes "Morris Marina 1300cc" manual at Amazon one hour ago.

My calipers are BREMBO, with two single opposed pistons, and brand new discs and pads are on the way to be delivered this week.

I'll order a full set of imperial tools.

A few years ago I bought a set of these. Ideal for undoing that stubborn rounded off hex head or even some locking wheel nuts.
But don't expect to re-use the nut or bolt afterwards.

you could try metrinch, I have a cheap version I picked up at a show and they are really good. http://uk.farnell.com/metrinch/met0106/spanner-set-metrinch-6pc/dp/282583?ost=metrinch+set however, Im guessing you have plenty of metric ones already so maybe a cheap AF set is all you need?

I have some imperial sockets/spanners surplus to requirements at my home in finistere, youre welcome for postal cost, unfortunately i'm in the uk currently, with a return france in about 2 weeks - let me know

Unfortunately the metrinch sets are no longer available at Farnell... bad luck.

It's a nightmare to find a toolset in inch here, even with paying the price

Or you could look at ebay.co.uk, old tool sets are often there
