  • Piston Heads kit car thread!!!

There is a very interesting thread on the Piston Heads Forum section regarding the demise of the kit car shows.
The thread is Kit car show opportunity ,some very good comments and ideas to try and re energise interest in Kit cars and to give owners the opportunity to participate and display their cars.
I have been to CPOP one of the suggested venues on several occasions and found it to be a very entertaining weekend although the club display area had some very rough grass.
Some very encouraging comments from organisers.

The referenced thread in PistonHeads is here.
There is some encouragement from organisers but it's up to Kit Car owners to follow the lead.
Kit Car owners can no longer solely rely on specialised Kit Car publicised events.
Hopefully the Committee can discuss the options for the MOC at or before the AGM, it may even have to change location for 2016, Grosvenor have cancelled shows at much shorter notice.
I tried last year to keep the Forum Calendar up to date, sadly I was first to caution against several cancellations, and now I am 1500 km away, I no longer have the personal involvement to keep it current, and nobody else seems to care, apart from those around an old stamping ground of mine, Devon/Exeter, where I spent a short but excellent festive season.
Is it time for the MOC to create the position of an Events/Social Officer to coordinate and ensure that the Forum Calendar and Pitstop are kept current with u pto date, future and planned events, that can be properly represented by the MOC, with flags, banners, flyers etc.
Or are we, the MOC, part of the same malaise?

Stewart Mills (of MEV) is making some good points and ones we have addressed both here on the forum and in countless committee meetings - and we will continue to do so, I'm sure. Steve, you are right - its up to Kit car owners to get out there and attend the shows - our membership is pretty good it has to be said (although there's always room for one more event).

Because we are a democratic club every member has the ability to add to the forum calendar and publicise any events, and of course any member can set up, run or just join in with events anywhere in the country - see Keith Hs C2C run - there's a prime case in point - a member doing something for the good of the club, promoting it really positively and raising cash for charity to boot. I dont think we need an events manager as we can all contribute either directly on here or by contacting Geoff for inclusion in pitstop. And it shouldn't be up to geoff to trawl through for new events - we should give him the courtesy of alerting him to stuff we want in pitstop dont you think?

I'm sure Derek and John would happily allow the use of the clubs banners - but there would be a logistical problem in getting them collected and returned to their place of storage - if you can see a way around that then please do say so.
Personally I don't see the malaise Steve, as Millsie says in his piece on pistonheads, things are on the up at the moment - our membership is healthy and active with lots going on. People restoring cars, upgrading them, a few still building the stalwart clubs still seem to be going strong and a much greater sense of camaraderie exists within the classic world with many invitations for us to show our cars. Indeed, at Tatton parks Passion for Power show we were placed 6th out of 90 classic car stands and over 2000 classic car exhibits.

I'm not saying we should be complacent, far from it - but this is a great club with a great membership, all of whom are different yet are welcomed equally and that's something to celebrate.
