Thanks for letting me join.
Quick intro to my world:
Police recovered my Marlin in Feb 2015, after I lost track of it in 2007 (story behind this obviously
) But it is in a sorry state. Ruined or missing interior, seats and carpets, dashboard, engine, gearbox, starter motor, battery, fuel system, brakes, electrics, exhaust system, lighting, body parts and may need a repaint and new wheels and tires.
So I feel like I am starting over but this time at least with a rolling chassis and most of bodywork. So would really like to take advantage of club members' advice/experience on rebuild and help with locating new components.
First Priority is the replacement of the 1800cc B Series British Leyland engine and gearbox (from a 1.8 DL Morris Marina – BOU 408K). Want same, as engine mounts welded to chassis designed for this engine/gearbox configuration. But upgraded to run on Leaded petrol, and maybe a few tweaks to get some more HP and torque.
On first look, but I need to have a closer inspection over the weekend to itemize the full list of work I will need to undertake. So far, these are parts that I will need to replace:
1. The bonnet x 1 (single piece aluminum shaped to fit) + front grill
2. The front suspension covers x 2 (molded fiberglass)
3. The spare wheel x 1 (matches the other four which are no longer made) and the spare wheel cover
4. The steering wheel (leather covered small diameter, specifically for the car)
5. Flexible rubber coupling x1 for the steering shaft
6. Dashboard and all instruments
7. Stainless steel exhaust x1
8. Twin SU Carbs and manifold
9. Fuel tank and sender unit with matching fuel gauge - existing tank too rusted, have heard of purpose made ally tanks
First action is to draw up complete list of work to be done and estimated costs (and sources) of all required components. I never expected to ever see this car again, so I do not have a "Marlin Rebuild" fund, and I have been warned (very explicitly) about the other priorities in our household..... So this the beginning of a long but relaxed and pleasurable journey
