  • Need Info on my new toy

New member and looking for info on my Marlin Roadster.Frame number 2381. First registered in 1983 I don't know what year the donor car was but it has Marina running gear and an 1800 engine in it which I was told is a B series engine. Also how do I know if it is a LWB or SWB. Also I am a bit concerned that I can only find 2 fuses ?? which are hidden away under the Scuttle on the drivers side. Surely there should be more than that ??..Also would it be a Mark 1 or Mark 2. Any info would be appreciated..Cheers all.

    Yup - 2-way fuse-box is standard
You may also find one or two inline fuse-holders tucked away in the loom somewhere.
LWB has an extra 6" over the SWB - there may be a fillet piece in the running board (not always) and the doors are correspondingly longer.
If the seats are hard up against the rear bulkhead it's almost certainly a SWB.

      Welcome
Chassis 2381 is definitely a SWB Mk2 - the kit left the factory in May 1983, first owner/builder was a Mr T J Knight

Welcome to the world of Marlining

If its the Black car I think it is its a SWB wheelbase 92 inches and being Marina based its a Mk2. Assuming the car is using the donor BL wiring loom, the two fuses are one for the ignition fed circuits white to green and non ignition circuits Brown to purple. There may be another line fuse tucked away somewhere in the side light circuit on a Red or Red and Green.

Best thing would be to get a workshop manual for the Marina to help you sort out what does what.

Re: Need Info on my new toy

Knowing the DVLA would not ask them any questions - just get a V5 in your name !!!

Do you have a V5 for the car ??? if so just leave any details as they are !!! If you do not then you will have to apply to the DVLA !!

The car ought to be registered correctly and to do that you will need to contact the DVLA with lots of proof that it was on the road and mot'd before the SVA test came out. Of course, you can ignore it - no-one will probably take any notice - but it may affect its value when you come to sell. Just my opinion

Before doing or saying anything you need to make sure the car has some kind of Vin plate with the Vin number as per the V5c.

Its strange that your car has a Q plate and still called a Morris although this could have come from a rebuilt Morris I doubt it, but the Car checker site also notes its a Morris (Sports).
Back when your car was first registerd you could call it what ever you liked but in about 1996 there was an amnesty to have a V5 corrected to reflect the actual kit car and model and not the donor.
This is not the first time this has cropped up but as far as I am aware there has been little or no, feed back on the success or otherwise of getting a V5c corrected.
What you must make sure is that all the documents, V5 MOT and Insurance all say the same thing.
When cars still had tax discs you could find plenty of cars at kit shows displaying a disc with the original make of the donor on them.

All a lot confusing for me I'm afraid.I think I will just cock a deaf hear to it. I love the little motor and it is obvious what it is just looking at it. Definitely not a Morris, cheers for your input
