Can anyone help me with some detailed info to enable me to replace my current 2 litre dohc 8 valve sierra engine with a MK2 ZETEC E 2LTR .I am fairly competent mechanically but would like to chat to someone who has done the mod, cars are new to me as i have always worked on motorbikes, but I can wield a spanner okay. The car has an MT75 gearbox so I need to know how to mate up the engine to this box and what other parts I need to source to complete the swap. Basically what I what I need is a bit of guidance on what parts are needed exactly and the correct way to go about the conversion.

    Hi Bev

Nice to see your car with the updated lights and apron at donnington park, its had me on the hunt for suitable bike lights, the apron is already in production!

I think your best bet is to speak to Don at YKC (Yorkshire kits Cars) sports cars, they fitted the Zetec units as an option in the juliettas etc.. which were the evolution of the Marlin Roadster. I know they used to supply full engine kits with injection, ecu etc.. and am pretty sure they used the MT75. Don is a super bloke, I am sure he will help if he can.

Hope to see you and the car at the next round of shows.

    Regards

    John

      Hi John
Thanks for the reply ref fitting zetec engine into Cabrio. I will take your advice and give YKC a ring.Hope your cabrio build is progressing apace, I am looking forward to seing it at next years shows. I am currently messing about making some wheel centre badges insstead of the stick on Marlin ones, it is something I do indoors in the warm, although yesterday I did fit some different springs to the front coilovers in the continued quest to get the suspension as I want it. Thanks again for the reply, take care.
      Regards Bev.

Re: Fitting a Zetec engine into a cabrio.

        Hi Bev,
        I am thinking of doing the same with a Berlinetta. Don is leaving YKC this Friday, retiring, but he has told me;
        1. The engine and gearbox will match but there is a hole remaining. YKC can supply a closing plate for this.
        2. I will have to change the engine side mounts but these will then match up with my existing chassis side mounts which is for a 2.0Lt SOHC Pinto engine. I believe yours are slightly different. Aquila Sports can supply engine side mounts that match.
        3. The alternator is too large [and I think needs to be moved to the N/S], again Aquila can supply an alternator conversion kit.
        3. The original EFI system is apparently linked with doors locks etc. and so will not work. I have been advised to buy a new ECU kit from Griffin Power Tel. No. 01765 676665
        4. Apparently the original inlet and exhaust manifolds are restrictive.

        Good luck Roger

thanks roger for your informative answer regarding the zetec conversion, i think the biggest problem will be the engine management system and i am in touch with a local lad who seems to know his way around the ecu side of things and he is working on that. I will let you know if anything comes of that contact, he is also working on making trottle bodies and manifolds , so that could be well useful because thats where the real gains in power for the zetec will come from. I will keep you informed of any developments, cheers,Bev

            Bev,
I have a driveable 1997 Mondeo 2L injection that's just failed its MOT on tyres, front springs, rear suspension mountings etc but it does have a very reliable 83000 mile zetec engine and auto box. Would the car be of interest to you?
