  • Who says interest in Kit Cars is declining?

It never ceases to amaze me the level of interest shown in kit car builders blogs on the internet.

My own site has just passed 200,000 hits - and there I was worried it may be a vanity project posting my humble attempts to build a Marlin Cabrio!

Strikes me there is still plenty of interest in kit cars being built...........................

As one who built and registered a Locust in the 90's I am amazed at the hoops builders are prepared to jump through in order to register a new build. Now I am retired after many years of putting up with the stubborn stupidity of various officialdom I no longer have the patience to do this, nor, probably the available years. I would sooner strip and refurbish a registered basket case than deal with the bureaucracy.Deep respect for those that can and do.

I think you are talking different things.

In 2014/2015 we have seen declining attendance and disappearing shows that were specifically Kit Car. We have recently seen the increase in amalgamation of Kit and Classic shows.

Kit car build blogs doubtless help other builders, and there is an increasing thirst for knowledge and historical information from those restoring old, already registered kits. The vast majority of the information rescouce is now internet based, where people can find an answer quickly, without waiting for that next show, that gets cancelled at the last minute, or the key expert does not attend.

Without such internet based knowledge many more kit cars will potentially end up on the scrap heap.

I probably did misunderstand Mike's meaning and drift off a bit. My point about rebuilding rather than new building, I think stands. There is an interest in rebuilding all types of old things boats and cars etc. There are people who lack the skill to design and build so they build new kits ,others like myself like to restore, and create our own idea, not necessarily the same as the original but what I want. Manufacturers probably don't make money from shows any more. Internet forums are great source of inspiration and encouragement, when you read about a struggle it helps to realise you are not alone. Long may it continue.
