    Number plate fixing and lights

    Hi all

I did put up a post regarding the fixing of the number plate to the spare wheel on the original roadster brochure for the mk2.

    Well, came up with this.

One plastic bung £1.14 and two neon bolts £2.49,both free postage.

    Perfect fit on the Cosmics

Neat job, how does the plate fix to the wheel, guess the bung fits into the wheel centre. Legally, does it have to be mounted vertically ?

Technically yes but as long as it can be read and is lite at night you are OK.

From watching Police shows the most important thing is that the ANPR camera recognises it and can read it. If it can't you get to contribute £100 to Georges holiday fund.

Section 6.3 of the MOT inspection manual: "That the Registration plates are fixed vertically, or as close to vertically as reasonably practical."
              repeated in
Section 4 of the IVA Inspection manual, with the rider, "taking into account the shape of the bodywork."

              and

Section 24 of the IVA Inspection manual: (Rear registration plate lamps) "must only emit white light"

Hope this helps, even if the IVA will not apply to a rebuild.

Thanks for the information. Have asked my friendly MOT man and he confirms that as the spare wheel takes up most of the rear calm shell and putting the number plate under the bumper obscures the plate he would pass it.

The neon bolts emit white light so no problems there.

Isn't life complicated these days? All rules and very little common sense. At what point do 5w bulbs stop being yellow and become white?
