Yes, there was a saddle there. A plastic one. I did have a look at the phosphor bronze ones. I think I will replace it but not sure if it will make too much difference.

The heavy duty plastic ones are easier to fit compared to the bronze. My concern was if one of your magnets became detached where would it go (sods law) and why have you had to make up so much play in the gear lever to selector rod, is the fork at the end of the gear lever worn.
