  • For those who use Flickr and other Yahoo services

The Internet company Yahoo has been sold to Verizon.
That may sound like some obscure code, but as the article will tell you, AOL once an Internet giant is essentially no more. That means that many of the spinoff services provided by AOL are no longer available.
Yahoo has many similar spin off services like Flickr used by many for photo sharing by several people on this site.
It is possible that Verizon will shut down Flickr so if you have a large archive of photos stored there, perhaps your build diaries, they are at risk, and should be backed up to a personal storage device.

Obviously any links from The MOC forum could become inactive and vital pictures lost.

    more info here or there.

Re: For those who use Flickr and other Yahoo services

most links to external urls by vbulletin are subject to change as websites update and change their structure so vbulletin asks if you "wish to Retrieve and reference remote files locally" when adding a picture from a URL. This means it creates an attachment from the URL image. This is highly preferable because it ensures your post will have a valid image in the future. Hot linked images often become unavailable and your entire thread can become meaningless when that happens. To avoid this I made sure the tick box is the default so unless anyone unticks it then we have copies of the images on our server. HOpe this puts fears at rest.
