Anyone got a link to drawing or picture of the jig used to build the original Roadster chassis ?

    Cheers.

      Re: Chassis jig

Many of the basic dimensions from suspension location points are available from the workshop manuals. Obviously the distance from front to rear axle will be different but side to side should all be the same.

I intend replacing the sections of the chassis under the door aperture with ones 6" longer to create a LWB.

Wouldn't it be easier to sell yours and buy a LWB?

              Quick answer is "no"

Mine is already stripped down to a 100% bare chassis ready for the conversion to LWB and then ground up rebuild. If anyone wants to do a straight swop - my SWB for their LWB chassis then I'd be interested otherwise it's getting the chop and stretched the extra 6"

Thanks. Whilst not the same as my Marina based it's still interesting to see that the jig wasn't a massive affair.

Hiya just remember the six inches was added to the cockpit all other dimensions were the same for the mk2.

My lwb was an early version and had a six inch filler for the running board.

Only later did marlin make the front wing six inches longer .

I suffer mobility problems due to left leg problems so the standard SWB (a) doesn't provide enough leg room for me to be comfortable as leg need to be straight (b) door opening too small for me to get in and out without large tyre levers
There are therefore a number of modifications that will be done during the rebuild. Extending the wheelbase by adding the 6" into the cockpit will mean I can then be able to have left leg straight when sitting so solves that problem. Obviously door will also be longer but I'm opening up the lower part which is normally blanked off so deeper doors. The front wings & running boards will then be modified to run under the new door opening - or I might simply use the set of genuine Caterham Clamshell wings I've already got that didn't look too bad when dry fitted before the stripdown. Hood frame touched my head and actual hood was tatty so already intend completely altering the design so more of a targa top style.
It's really a "suck it and see" project so final wing and hood will be determined after the bulk of the rebuild completed and what looks right.
FWIW I'm fitting a 1275 Sprite engine with matching gearbox (dry fitted and even managed to keep Sprite rad and unaltered hoses) so there will also be a lot more foot room than the original Marina box. Engine is on the B Series mount positions so a Mini LCB exhaust manifold fits which isn't possible with Marina 1275.

Would fitting a removable steering wheel help and save you a lot of effort

I'm going to fit a removable steering wheel but for security reasons.
I was born with a twisted left leg and 1950's method of straightening was "YOU WILL WALK STRAIGHT" rather than the type of treatment that would be available today. This has meant my left knee & hip cause me pain and discomfort that replacement joints won't cure but if I can have the leg straight then driving is possible.
