    Re: SWB Marlin for sale

Once again a very inflated price for an unexceptional car. Just my opinion.

I agree that the asking price is a bit "full" but maybe a bit of a harsh comment on a Club member's car http://www.marlinownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?6959-1987-Marling-Roadster-FOR-SALE-fully-working-with-full-mot

Just my opinion Jon. Others may disagree which of course is their right.

It never ceases to amaze me how differently we value some of our cars!

On a replacement basis it is possible to justify some of the higher prices we see quoted, but as a sale price?

There appear to be some very optimistic members hoping to sell their cars!

I think its a very fair price...our cars are possibly the lowest valued cars out there atm. Look at the prices of similar type kitcars and you may agree - or even the donor cars themeselves... try buying a cortina (£5k) or even a marina (7 grand? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Mar...EAAOSw3ZRY9PYF) I know you cant compare apples with pears and the market will decide...but...

In the words of the vendor it hasn't got a hood and could really benefit from a respray. A genuine 9000 miles! Was the running gear all brand new? What do you consider to be fast. My experience is that both Roadster and Cabrio will struggle to get beyond 90 MPH unless you intend becoming airborne, though may be different with cycle wings.
I guess that I sold my Cabrio for a whole lot less than it was truly worth if you believe that it is accurately valued at £4500
I personally feel that the whole Classic car market is suffering from over inflated prices , as do some people I have talked to in the business. Their take on it is that a fair few 'investors' are going to get caught with their pants down. It's happened before.

For what it's worth, the vendor can ask what he likes. The proof of the pudding is what he actually gets.

I agree that our cars seem to be undervalued compared to similar kit car offerings: just look at the plethora of Lotus 7 lookalikes. However, the sad fact remains that when Roadsters come to the market on eBay and the like they sell for less money.

That said, I have seen a trend for the gap narrowing over the last couple of years, which can only be good news for the future of the marque.

But how may of us own these wonderful vehicle as an investment anyway!!

Is it not better for us if the price remains lower? It means we get more car for out money, and they are a lovely looking car, I was patting mine in the garage today sad but true
