slight sideway movement in brake pedal

G,Day All
I have a question about brake pedal movement. Awhile back I noticed a slight movement of my LHD 1994 YKC roadster brake pedal -when applying the brakes near the end of the brake pedal travel I would fell a slight movement .Yesterday with the clutch pressed all the way in at the top of a hill waiting for a light to change the car started to roll forward and I hit the brake and felt the same movement in the clutch so I looked down and hit the brake again and I could just see my foot on the clutch do a bit of movement to the left maybe a 1/8-1/4 of an inch.It seem that under pressure the bar assembly that the pedals hang from move slightly .Any ideas what has worn or loosened

I would suggest you are feeling the result of some wear on the shafts/bearing surfaces.

I have noticed this on other cars, let's face it they've mostly done a fair mileage, IMHO a little slop is not too serious

It's a fairly tedious stripping job to get at it, maybe you could put some grease in the areas

Other than used parts I do not know if NOS spare bits are obtainable

It is also worth checking the aluminium bulkhead that the pedal assembly is bolted to is not starting to show stress fractures - I am sure there are previous threads on this topic?

That was my thought too, but it seemed to be prevalent on early non servo braked cars.

The last time I shared a document describing the resolution it was deleted by forum admin for an alleged breach of copyright even though nobody had viewed the file so they had no idea of its content. I am not inclined to share it again, but you will know where it can be found.

Michael describes it as being a 1994 YKC car in which case the bulkhead is NOT aluminium but galvanised steel. Or at least my '92 Roadster was.
My understanding was /is that YKC changed front bulkhead, transmission tunnel , rear bulkhead and floors to galvanised steel when they purchased the rights to manufacture the Roadster from Paul Moorhouse circa 1991.

Yes...it could be using the ford pedal box - in which case the shaft should be secured by plastic washers and R Clips. This sort of thing....pedalbx.JPG
