It would seem from a number of posts that a lot more maintenance is being done not by the owners but by local mechanics/garages. Is this a general trend or just confined to Marlin owners. Either way I find this slightly worrying!

Re: General maintenance and stuff
Not me, having had the Escorts and Marinas in the 80’s when I started driving you had to get used to the regular maintenance and do whatever it takes to get the MOT.
Rebuilding my Roadster takes me back to those days, simpler mechanics.

Re: General maintenance and stuff
Me also but, not being familiar with the B ser engine I have used a local guru to help. With the Escort & Marina engines they were basic I can deal with them. Now, the distributor isn't even on the engine, How do you check the points!. I can trouble shoot old electrics but modern stuff like our Citroen Belingo I leave to the garage. The days of make do and mend, rooting around a scrap yard seem to be long gone. Now it seems the first requirement is a large wallet. How times change.

Re: General maintenance and stuff
As I am lucky enough to have a few classic bikes and an MGA so time can get short - I do a lot of mech fixes and have decent workhop but sometimes when the Marlin MOT sneaks up on me I throw it in to my local garage who know me and if there is a MOT fix needed they will just do it (save me a rush effort, re MOT, and having Marlin off the road). As this suff is a hobby I work on the principal that I should enjoy it not be under any sort of pressure (semi reirement looming so possibly more time free)

Re: General maintenance and stuff
I try and do most things myself, going to the local 'garage' if I can't get to the part, too difficult for me to do easily or as last week just ran out of time before I needed the car for an event!
I suspect that as kit cars become classics and more non car people buy them, and us oldies who have the knowledge move on to the next life, then yes the owners will be looking for someone else to keep it going.- 9th owner of T693 SSC possibly a factory built Ford based V8 Sportster
- 4th owner of Q309 RNV, an early Cabrio built by Bob Copping, owned Doug & Liz Billings for 16 years
- 9th Custodian of JRR 929D, Triumph Vitesse based special Paul Moorehouse built prior to the Triumph Roadster kits.
- 8th owner of Roadster chassis number 2395. Now owned by Barry!
- Builder of chassis number 2325 (PKK 989M) in the mid 80's. Now owned by Eric & Lynne.

Re: General maintenance and stuff
I retired (?) in 2012 and I'm still waiting to sit in the garden with that elusive alcoholic drink and watch the sun go down. Currently fitting new floor joists and floor boards to a 9mtrs x 4mtrs room, now where did I leave that kitcar thingy? I know I've got one somewhere.
