My Cabrio has the (rather rare) carburated i4 8v DOHC engine. I've been struggling for a while to get it to run decently.....even bought a BNIB Weber from FRC in Newport, which really should sort it out OK, but the running on persists. There is no anti-dieseling valve and having passed the problem on to my excellent local garage, the part I need has a FINIS code 6178810 and the "other part number" is 87SF9P554AA. I'm a bit bewildered as in addition to the BNIB carburetor I have the one that cam with the engine, one I was very kindly given by another MOC member and one I bought from eBay, not to mention one I had acquired for a previous 1600 cvh project. The original had a manual choke...but the perceived wisdom is that the Weber 28/32 TLDM was never supplied with a manual choke....so I'm not sure what the original carburetor is....the BNIB unit is the one intended for use with this engine, according to the experts. Anyone able to help please?

Re: Fuel Shut off valve for Weber 28/32 TLDM
The carb you have with manual choke is more than likely originally water choke based but at some time in its life has had a manual choke conversion done to it. This was very popular due to the poor reliability of water chokes.
I thought the TLDM had an idle cut-off valve installed as standard. If so, are you sure you have this wired in correctly.Mk2 SWB Marina Roadster with a 1800 Fiat Twin Cam engine and 5 speed Abarth gearbox built in 1987

Re: Fuel Shut off valve for Weber 28/32 TLDM
The carb should be a Weber 28/32 TLDM (part number 2256072600) as fitted to the 2.0 DOHC Scorpio afaik. and it should have an anti-dieseling valve. It would also have had a water choke and this has most likely been replaced with a contemporary choke conversion kit.
I would tend to go back to basics first and check the timing is ok. Pop up a pic of the set up as-is? I'm sure collectively we can get this sorted.

Re: Fuel Shut off valve for Weber 28/32 TLDM
This exploded diagram of the Weber 28/32 TLDM shows the idle cut-off valve as number 9. Make sure this has a positive ignition switched supply. When the ignition is off there should be no power being supplied to the solenoid, therefore closing the fuel supply, preventing run-on. With ignition on there should be 12v+ supply, opening the solenoid and allowing the fuel to flow freely.Attached FilesMk2 SWB Marina Roadster with a 1800 Fiat Twin Cam engine and 5 speed Abarth gearbox built in 1987

Re: Fuel Shut off valve for Weber 28/32 TLDM
Thank you everyone for your comments. My excellent local garage were going to check the valve timing for me but want to get the carburation sorted first...at least I have a new MOT. I do have a new timing chain kit so I may have the car home again and try to do the timing checking / chain changing myself. On the question of the choke, if there was an aftermarket manual kit fitted to my original carb....it may be possible to fit that kit to the new carb....shouldn't it?
I'm sorry to sound so ignorant but I have no working knowledge of the Weber carb....they all look the same and fiendishly complicated!
