Now there are those that will, rightly say the music in their car comes from their right foot, and in mine this is certainly true as well. However, I would like to one day be driving across Rannoch Moor with Santana or Led Zep blasting out as I roar past the tourists... Trouble is - I don't have a radio / CD / MP3 player installed. As you know, there's not a lot of room for standard sized audio units and this is definitely the case in mine. So over this winter it is on the 'to do' list and I'd like to ask what SMALL audio systems you've fitted in your cars? Ebay is awash with loads of Chinese exported Bike radios which might be getting close to the mark for size but can any of them be relied upon? Furthermore - they (insofar as I've found) seem to be innappropriate for standard car audio speakers. I have the speakers already fitted - I just need the sound source & amplifier...

I got a small usb chargeable (from your12v car powe socet) speaker just a bit smaller than a brick, velcroed it to my transmission tunnel and plug in my MP3 with a line to line. Its OK but controls ar all a bit fiddely on th move

I managed to squeeze in a four speaker, 50W x 4, stereo CD, FM, MW, LW, MP3, USB and aux system and a 300W subwoofer. Still can’t hear the darned thing. Even with the engine coasting there’s too much wind noise in a Cabrio.

Santana might work though.

I tend to use my mobile with a headset and ear defenders if I’m out on my own. Works well especially on cold mornings

Isnt it illegal to use headphones whilst driving in the UK? It’s illegal here in Spain, but then on a motorbike, when wearing a helmet, it equates to the same thing, but the two are chalk and cheese, often headphones drown out external sounds, not attenuate them.

Interesting, I always thought the Cabrio to be quite good for not too much wind noise. Only time I notice it is when I drive with the windows down. And you can never go wrong with some Santana, for any occasion.

I always believed it to be illegal to use headphones, ear-buds whilst driving as it isolates you whats happening around you; the legal argument is that you may not be able to hear police sirens, car horns etc. They are allowed in rally cars........

The Law on Wearing Headphones While Driving
In the UK it is not specifically illegal to drive while wearing headphones, but if the police believe a driver was
distracted or not in full control of their vehicle, the driver could be stopped and penalised 2
. Rule 148 of the
Highway Code also states that safe driving and riding needs concentration, and therefore drivers and riders
should avoid distractions such as loud music that could mask other sounds.
