  • Unrelated to Marlin. Diesel engine question.

Totally unrelated to my Marlin so I apologize now but I have found members on here far more helpfull than other forums.
Looking for advice on my VW T5 1.9 tdi, P0101 error code relating to MAF if anyone has good knowledge of diesels.

Swap it out for a new OEM sensor. They can be cleaned with variable results, but you have to remove them first, so a bit of dismantling of the air inlet after the filter, and then reassembly to find the fault still exists.
Around £30.00 from your favourite auction site or motor factor.

Thanks Steve, I tried a replacement MAF from eBay but that gave me an additional fault code so sent it back as faulty for a refund.
Got a good second had one and cleaned then cleared the code and the P0101 code came back after about 30 miles.
Removed all pipes and cleaned checking the seals then refitted, cleared the code again and yet after 30ish miles it came back.
Just checked my intercooler with some soapy spray and my daughter with a heavy right foot and definitely spitting back showing a leak. I can understand a leak will cause black smoke but don’t understand it causing the fault code.
      Thanks again, cheers, Martin.

The p0101 code relates to maf and other stuff like it's circuitry and tubing. First check the wiring...on a different model when I got this code it turned out the multiplug had an almost broken wire in it. It can also be caused by cracked and perished pipework esp small bore vacuum lines if connected. Hope this helps. But I guess an I intercooler issue could cause it?

Thanks for that, got a new intercooler on order as that does need to be replaced.
When fitting I will strip all the pipe work back again to check the seals also as I only quickly visually checked the small bore pipes so will remove them too. The MAF is giving readings back to my code reader at 15g/s at tickover, 60g/s at 3000rpm then +100-150g/s by stabbing the pedal down so assume wiring should be ok but will check again.
All this is taking my time away from my Roadster rebuild , it will be feeling neglected soon.
          Cheers, Martin.
