I was hoping to have mine designated as Historic this year and had a letter back from DVLA which stated:

"The legislation was introduced to exempt vehicles manufactured prior to 1st January 1978 from the payment of VED. This came into force on 1st April 2018. The intention from H M Treasury is to introduce a legislative clause every year so that vehicles manufactured 40 years ago will become exempt from VED.'

Mine has a V5 of 18/10/78 which means I will have to wait until April.
