Thinking of replacing the screen while the body is off. It appears that it (the screen) slides in from below rather than offered from the front. If it's the first it seems that the scuttle/firewall etc needs to be dismantled first. Is there an easy way? As usual any guidance gratefully accepted.

Ok just done this: I dont know what its called but the piece of body just in front of the screen has to be removed, mine was bolted through the fire wall. The screen can be then dug out, a cheese wire approach worked for me. There is a lot of making good afterwards. Whilst the screen was out I took the opportunity to file the sharp edges off the screen surround, makes it less painfull when you are heaving yourself in and out.

I have a Sierra Roadster (i.e. removeable roll over windscreen surround) and the windscreen came with a label on it which says
HW Automotive (laminated)
Model HT 1743 LCL
LW 1743 T80
Order BSG 3922
Ref A 10525 B 54341
This label is 11 years old and things have a habit of changing. If you are still in doubt, try Don (ex YKC), he seems very willing to help - he helped me out recently.
Lastly, if you have this windscreen surround type, give some serious thought to getting it chromed while it is off. It really looks the business when it is done but as I said, serious thought as it is very expensive

Re: Screen replacement
Thanks everyone. A mate who works for a screen place can get a new one cut pretty cheap - c ?25. Don, as my body is off anyway, I thought it might be easy to replace the screen, but at first glance it don't look simple! I've got the plastic moulding in front of the screen off, but seems not to be enough room to slide the screen down even after a cheesewire job to free it from silicone. How does the old one come out and the new in? Perhaps I'll not bother, but as it's a respray it might be nice to do this at the same time.

Peter trust me there is enough room. It only needs to slide down about two inches and then there is enough room because of the slope of the screen edges to be able to get one side out and then the other. Getting the new one in is more difficult, put a couple of bits of cork or rubber in the bottom of the grooves, to stop you chipping the corners. Also buy one of those big rubber sucker things that glaziers use to hold the glass, makes it much easier.
