4 months ago I bought some nice shiney anodised wire from ebay with the idea that I would test out the feasibility of crimping it and weaving a replacement grille mesh. I made a peg board and crimped a few lengths. No way! So laborious getting consistency and flatness I concluded that I was daft to even have entertained the idea in the first place.
What happens? Well, no sooner comes lockdown and the wire crimping begans again in earnest. I have just finished the weaving and threading through the alloy frame. Some finishing remains however the result is so much better than the original, ill-fitting and oxidised grille I'm pretty pleased. The rest of the roadster stripdown should gather pace once the weather warms up a bit more but at least I have a nice sparkly front end to spur me on.
If anyone has a spare Marlin badge that's looking for a spiffing new grille to adorn please get in touch. Thanks.
