  • Zetec transplant.

One of the barriers to fitting a Zetec engine in a kit car is the cost of replacing the ECU and injection system. This man has managed to get a Zetec running in a Dutton using the standard ECU and injection.

Can't get the link to work. Here is a screen shot of what I am trying to share perhaps someone knows what's going wrong?

Yes, you can do it using the standard ECU and injection if you can work out which wires are necessary.
I have seen an advert somewhere for a stripped down wiring loom (but I forget where, Google may help) but an aftermarket ECU and loom will set you back about £600.
If you have gone down the Zetec route then additional costs (apart from the engine itself) will be approx £150 new exhaust, £100 for water plumbing, £150 for water rail, £100 on brackets, some vague cost on making engine mounts, hi pressure fuel pump (£100) and probably a few more unexpected costs. So overall new ECU doesnot seem a bad deal.
PS I am biased having got an Omex ECU
