Another MK2, does anyone know if the later rear tub with the returned edge fits as a replacement for the earlier MK2 rear, the one with the straight up edge riveted to a tubular hoop?

Re: One more unfinished Roadster (LWB) for sale

I changed the rear tub on mine many years ago.
From what I remember the only difference was that the front edge of the tub attaches onto an angle iron support that also holds the hood frame mounting bracket, where as the later tub with the returned edge mounts onto a flat plate on the inside face of the return and the hood frame and mounts are different
So there is a small amount of welding

What's the asking price for the lot please?

And/or, if willing to split the kit, how much for all the bits that would fit a S.W.B. chassis?

By all means p.m. me if that's the preferred way to reply.

        Thanks in anticipation ~ Tom

It would be handy to know where it is located.....

Thanks for letting me/us know. As I said in my email to you, it would be a shame to split this L.W.B. kit, but you do have my offer if it's ever of any interest. Good luck ~ Tom

Just a note to say... A big thanks to you Danny.

It was a real pleasure meeting you and...

                    She's home safe.

Seen here just as we were about to unload. P1140599.jpg

Incidentally, I'm definitely not going to split her up, I'd rather finish the build.

Will keep you all informed of the inevitable trials and tribulations as the winter progresses. Hopefully out on the roads with her next summer, though I imagine this project is going to be quite a challenge.

All the best to all ~ Tom.

Seems like it was very close to finished, does anyone know what it never was?

Engine, transmission, instruments, interior trim and seating, door handles and latches, all lighting (bar the indicators already installed), actual windscreen wipers and quite a few other details aside, not least a full disassembly to square everything up then paint and reassemble (...and, Oh yes! painting it) apart from those relatively major details she is pretty close to being finished... Thankfully, 'most' of what I'll need is either already there or I have it in my stockpile of bits, so that's good. Then there's I.V.A. I've been ploughing my way through the IVA manual and I so far I think there's nothing fatal in those regulations, but there is a very long list of compliance work to carry out.

I don't know what it was ever meant to be but Danny did mention a 1300 'A' series engine being in the plan.

My choice will be the Ford 1600 cvh, that's lying in my shed already. If anyone has a ford type 9 or even an old rocket box, with either the integral or separate bell housing, looking for a new home... subject to price and geographic location, that would be very handy to know about. :-)

It's a fine project and I hope I can do it justice in the end, especially since I know that the family of the deceased, former owner, will want to know how this all goes.

When I get into the meat and bones of the work I'll start a new thread with plenty more photos. All the best to all till then ~ Tom.

Re: One more unfinished Roadster (LWB) for sale

I have put two cars through the SVA/ IVA. A couple of basic but less obvious tips.
You MUST have proof of the engine age otherwise they will test it under the current rules which means a cat and all the stuff that goes with it.
Build everything very carefully. If they can see you took care over the build you are 50% there already.
Make the SVA manual your bible and adhere to the rules even if they may seem a little odd at times.
If in doubt ask plenty of questions on this forum.
                            Cheers Robin

Re: One more unfinished Roadster (LWB) for sale

Notes for Vosa IVA with old Marlin roadster kits

The first thing to do is some serious homework on what is involved and how much time and money is available.

“Kit car” magazine did produce a useful condensed booklet covering the main points of IVA but not sure if this is still available, however the VOSA IVA manual is available online.

The link is to this is < https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/...proval-manuals> ..... and kit cars come under the category M1.

Have a scroll through before trying to read it fully then refer to these notes from me that are more Marlin specific. Can’t guarantee that I have covered every issue but I have done my best.

Section...06.....Door latches..... The design of the Roadster door is such that you will need to source special double latched locks but they are available from kit accessory suppliers.

12 ....Interior fittings dashboard etc.... You will need to ensure cockpit edges and dash have a radius edge to prevent injury.

14.... Steering wheel and column.......You will need to have an approved type steering wheel and study the design of the column assembly to comply.

16.... Exterior projection....The leading edges of the front wings and suspension plus the windscreen frame and other sharp edges will need to have a radius or be protected.

19 and 31.... Seat belt anchorages will need to have recognised threaded ferules welded in to take correct grade of bolts and the shoulder height from the seat to the top mount will involve either a very thin seat squab or lowering the floor (quite a straight forward procedure) to get the measurement required. Plus the later add on seat belt tower to mount the bracket (There is a drawing for this (in technical tips) that would involve some simple engineering).

45....... Windscreen ....... will need to have the required markings It is possible to get specialist windscreen companies to cut a flat laminate screen to pattern but I am not sure if they can save the marking or re-etch the new screen to comply.( You would need to approach your local vehicle glass company)
There is an opinion that you can present the car with the screen and wipers missing but as on the Roadster the frame is integral with the chassis I am not sure if they would accept that. It would be a bit drastic but I suppose you could cut off the screen frame carefully to weld back on later.

You would be advised to take plenty of pictures of each specific stage of the build feature and produce a portfolio of the build to present along with the car. This also helps with assembly points that get hidden by later work as well as proving the home build status.

Not sure where you’re nearest IVA testing station is but it may be worth going along to see if you can have a chat with one of the inspectors
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!
