As a new member, I am finding this forum a huge benefit, so forgive me for another question on a topic which may be old hat to most owners.
My 1.8TC Marina based roadster has a mild steel exhaust. Looking at the picture of TPR 197L in the club archive, which seems to have been taken some time ago, this may even be the one fitted at the build date. It is very loud, possibly because any internal packing has compressed/worn out/moved, and the whole thing also looks a bit fragile.
I think that the Marlin may be with me for a while, so a new exhaust is on the cards.
I took the car to a specialist near here; although they usually construct one-off systems for race and rally cars, the owner said that he does kit car exhausts fairly often. The quality of the work looks very good - the manifold they were making for a Volvo-engined Ford was exquisite. They use only stainless steel, and give a written lifetime guarantee on all work.
They suggested leaving the cast manifold, and more or less copying the old system ie two pipes into one, then a silencer under the wing, with the final pipe tuned outward.
Their estimate was about what I had in mind (no, I didn't give any hints before they quoted) at about £600 + VAT. It seems reasonable, and I am trying not to penny-pinch on this one, but before I go ahead, is there any other route that members can suggest?
