I have just been reading the Haynes manual for the Morris Marina 1300 and at the start it mentions that the Marina had a 'Toledo Type Gearbox' 1) Is this true and was it from the later (1971 onwards) rear wheel drive version. 2) can the Toledo box be fitted/mated to the 1300 engine 3) has anyone done this? Many thanks Adrian

Re: Gearbox for 1300 marina based Roadster
I am currently working on a Ford Type9 conversion with Chris Weedon of the Marina Owners Club. I thought I would bounce this one to him and this is his reply. Hope it makes sense.
There are a family of gearboxes using the same gearbox casing and bellhousing bolt pattern; the internal ratios vary.
Marina – 1.1/1.3/1.7/1.8/1.5 diesel
Ital 1.3/1.7
Spitfire late 1.3/ all 1.5s
Toledo RWD 1.3/1.5
Dolomite 1.3/1.5/1850
TR7 4 speed
Vitesse 1.6/2.0
Herald 1250 & Early Spitfire 1.3s
Early Sherpa 1.6/1.8/1.8 diesel
There are different input shafts, they vary by no. of splines and diameters of input shaft, Triumphs are generally 10 spline and all Marina/Itals are 23 spline; but broadly they can be grouped into families as follows;
All the Triumph 1250/1300/1500s with whatever body shell.
All Marina/Ital 1.1/1.3s
Dolomite 1850/TR7
Marina/Ital 1.7/1.8/1.5 diesel
Vitesse 1.6/2.0
No-one has done the conversion that you mention to my knowledge, but it might be possible with a hybrid Toledo/Marina clutch kit. Question why would you want to?
Now that sounds like the answer to can you fit a Type 9 in a Marina not easy but we recon that can be done. I( might end up with a 1800 marina box going spare but that wont fit a 1300.

Re: Gearbox for 1300 marina based Roadster
If anyone needs one I have a 1.3 gearbox in my garage, left over from when the car had a 1275 engine which is now sold - to my knowledge their is nothing wrong with it, but as I never drove the car with the 1275 in it I can't guarantee that. I would think £20 would be a fair price ....
