  • Pesky washer

Hi, this is probably one of the simpler questions asked on this forum. My LWB Roadster, 1.7 Ital lump etc has sprung a slow drip from the radiator drain plug. I don't know the origen of the Rad'! I need a new washer; simples! But I don't quite know what to get. My normally excellent and reliable Motor Factor in Peterborough can't help so can anyone suggest the options? I.e.: can I chop the center out of a domestic tap washer or is there a supplier of the correct items out there. Last resort would, I supose, be to blank off the tap and drain from the bottom hose. The actual tap is plastic and the current washer appears to be rubber if that helps.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

If you know the size of the washer, contact http://www.copperwasher.co.uk/index.html as they supply many types of washers, I used them commercially. You might have to buy in bulk but they have sensible prices or with a bit of persuasion might supply 1 off.

Is it a plug or a tap? If a tap replace it with a plug with PTFE tape to seal it.

Thanks for those ideas; just a thought Hugh, is PTFE effected by the anti-freeze in the coolant? It's probably best described as a plastic plug by the way.

PTFE is totally inert to everything in and on a car.

Thanks Hugh, I'll try that approach fist and see how we go.
