Radiator drain cock

Has anyone fitted a drain cock to the bottom of a radiator - is there enough meat to take a tap or does it have to be brazed

Assuming the headers are metal(some are plastic) you need to have a threaded boss soldered into the bottom header. On triumph rads they used to have a little tap or plug at the bottom.

Hi Keith, My local rad repairer (Victoria, Cornwall) would do this while you wait! It is best to get a boss braised to the bottom of the rad. I'm sure there will be a radiator repair firm near you.

Good point Dane - thanks. I suppose I should have thought it through. If they are going to save pennies by not putting drain taps on, they are not going to use material thick enough to tap
