Try http://www.etbinstruments.com . ETB are experts for firms such as VDO but they do carry stock of universal senders. I get my VDO stuff from them.
The sender is most probably a Hall Effect semiconductor. I recently repaired a large baler that uses these items all over the place to detect movement of parts of the machine. These sensors are available, I'm surprised that RS couldn't provide one. Anyway, I reckon a quick word witrh ETB will sort you out. Good luck.

      Re: SPA digital speedo

Hi again. If your speedo requires a Hall Effect device then RS do supply quite a few different types. As an example, and I don't know whether this one is compatible with your instrument, have a look at the Honeywell SR3C-A1. It has the correct voltage range and may be your answer! Good hunting.

        Hi Derek,
Are you sure your car is that old. Sportsters were not introduced until 1996/7. That info may help you in your search.
