I have been thinking, if you we're building a new marlin or replacing your engine in your cabrio, sportster, roadster or berlinetta what moden engine would you use ?

Zetec or K Series seems a sensible option as there's huge availability of parts and know-how from many different applications.Comment

In Order of financial outlay....
Roadster options....
MX5
Sigma (inlet on the passenger side so no need to move steering column)
Duratec (inlet on the passenger side so no need to move steering column) - Also 6 speed GBox from MX5 mk3 fits.
Honda S2000 (inlet on the passenger side so no need to move steering column)
Ford Cosworth Turbo / non turbo (inlet on the passenger side so no need to move steering column)
Cabrio / Berli....
BMW - Great relaxed / powerful / economical engine. Perfect for the style of car. No other choice in my opinion.
Although the volvo T5 / T5R has an easy RWD conversion. Hooligans at the ready.
Mazda V6 RWD conversion available. See Locost forum.

Currently restoring my Sierra based Berlinetta. Original Rover V8 out Vauxhall C20XE in. Only down side is no glorious V8 sound, but performance and MPG should be at least on par if not better. The main problem I had with the V8 was lack of room for a big enough radiator.Comment

Lexus V8...auto-only but will mate to Toyota W58 box iirc. Smaller, more powerful & lighter than a Rover V8...Marlin Roadster, LWB...1860 B Series + Ford Type 9
Renault Espace 54mm front calipers, vented discs, cycle wings and adjustable tie-bars.Comment
