Sealing My Boot?

Can anyone post a photo of how their Cabrio/Hunter closes off the rear edge of their boot, to stop water coming in, please?

I know the attached exaggerates the problem, as the boot lid fills a significant part of the square cut out as it is closed, but on its own it is nowhere near water tight.

Is it better to try to make a seal around the square edge to the boot lid? - difficult against the rough underside of the GRP lid?

Or is it better to take an impervious membrane and attach it to this square cut out, and then take it down to where the boot lid hinge is to create a permanet physical barrier?

Photos would be a big help, please?

Hi Mike. My Hunter has a flexible rubberised sheet stretched across that area. There seems to be a metal strip attached across the boot hinge bar to trap the rear edge of the fabric. Then the fabric is folded forwards over this to conceal it. The sides are glued down onto the floor ply and the carpet then fits over this. At the front edge an alloy strip goes over the carpet with the seal fabric underneath it all. On mine the floor slot is cut wider than yours, more in line with the boot lid edge from memory. I will post some pics later as I have to go out for a while. Peter.

Mike, mine's the same as Peters - surprise.

I don't have any pics but can take some if Peter cannot. My cutout, again as Peters, is somewhat wider than yours

The material is almost like a heavy blackout cloth (if you're old enough to remember that ) A narrow ally strip is pop rivetted
to the boot lid, and a wider one is screwed onto the ply floor
