  • Fuel cap size

Hi help needed for a replacement fuel cap

Reading previous threads on subject a Escort and Cortina sized cap seemed correct for my car which is a 1984 Roadster so bought one of E bay and its way too large, just measured the filler neck and it seems to be a 1 1/2 inch inside diameter filler
any ideas as to the original make this fuel tank would have come from originally
Car came with a locking fuel cap in plastic that P.O had broken to remove as no key came with it and it also leaks!

    Re: Fuel cap size

If yours is a mk 2 i.e. marina based Marlin then the fuel tank would have been from a Mk1/Mk2 van or estate Escort.

If not then someone will be along with the relevant information.

Most roadsters used the Mk 1/2 Escort van/estate tank but your car is a bit of a one off with the MGB running gear. Either way the builder may have used the neck from any suitable vehicle. Try posting a picture and see if anyone can suggest its origins. The alternative is to look at Holdens or Car builder solutions and replace the whole neck and cap. Or find a friendly breakers yard to have a wander around to find one that fits.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

        Thanks

Good call, it turns out to be a MGB /Midget/ Mini sized filler.

        Should have guessed!
