I am no mechanic, but if it happened in wet weather and OK in dry, there may be wet affecting a relay or other part, especially if it blew a lot of fuses. Liz

solved!
The problem was an intermittent fault in the fuel pump.
I replaced it with a new one and have since done 1500 miles with no further problems.
I have also added an extra fuse to the part of the common fuel pump + ignition circuit. The new fuse is in the wire to the fuel pump only so if it blows in the future I will know the fault is in the fuel pump part of the circuit.
