Similar to what I did on my Fiat installation. The origional reverse detent was as in the box so no problems.

Things can be overthought sometimes, as in my case.

The track rod end has a little movement up an down if not bolted up, I'm thinking of using that for the reverse detent gate.

        Reverse detent.

I remembered that the Rover P6 had a lever under the gear knob which you pulled up to gain reverse and was very basic.

I think with a little thought this idea could be utilised with the ideas below.

I attach a picture which shows the sleeve around the gear lever and the metal stopper which needs to be lifted over to gain reverse.

        Just a thought.

Just been browsing and came across the classic mini linkage.

OK this is what I propose to do.

            Plan

And what it should look like.

            Wish me luck.

Slight change, the rod between the two gear levers will have to be bolted to allow forward movement.

              Doh !!!

                Hi Adrian,
I am doing the same, just sourcing the bits and bobs then give it a go, we don’t know until we try.
Popped over to see Hugh the other day and his gear change setup is great with nice precise gear changes.
It will be interesting how we overcome the reverse gear gate, thinking a collar on the new gear stick, any ideas?
                Martin.

Reverse gear, looking at a "L" shaped piece of steel bolted to the plate and a pin welded to the sleeve so you can lift the pin above "L" shape thus gaining reverse.

As you said don't know until you try.

Reading this thread I remembered a photo in the 'Roadster Dashboards' gallery, is this a similar solution?

I do love everything about this particular dashboard. Is this car still around?

A twin bar extension, that’s another idea, should be the same end result.
                          That dash does look good.

Meverett . From my experience with a Ford extension your well spaced ends are overkill , a fork the width of the levers with tight bearings is plenty. I love the tube for reverse lock. I'm thinking , put the gear knob on the tube then lift the knob. A slot and locating pin to stop rotation.

Thanks HairyDave, I have got to get the engine and gearbox in the car then take some measurements.
I was expecting a fork width of around 75mm, I have some thick steel tube with an internal diameter of 15mm, I will source some nylon bar to press fit, drill a 10mm hole through and press fit some 10mm tube I have which will give me an internal diameter of 8mm, a couple of M8 bolts and should be nice and tight allowing for movement.
