I wanted to share a conversation with CHRIS WEEDOM on leaf spring disassembly
It’s not difficult just slow and steady will overcome what seems like a big job. I assume that you would like to leave the axle and brakes in place?
1 Raise the rear of the car in the air and put blocks in front of the front wheels. Support the car on its body, not on the springs or the axle. For a Marlin, I would use a large wooden beam under the car in front of the rear wheels supported at the ends on axle stands. Remove the rear wheels.
2 Lift the rear axle up using a trolley jack under the differential. Lift it enough to take the weight of the axle off the springs. When the springs feel loose, support the axle on axle stands or similar, making sure that you are not touching the springs or shock absorber brackets.
3 Undo the nuts that join the U bolts to the axle and spring plates. Remove the U bolts. The bottom plate should now pull away, hanging on the shock absorbers.
4 The axle is now separate from the springs. Undo the nuts and bolts at the rear of the springs and remove the bolts and let the rear of the springs fall to the ground. Then undo the nuts and bolts at the front of the springs and remove the bolts. The springs will fall to the ground.
5 Voila!
